There is one type of kayotsarga called urdhva kayotsarga which is done in a standing position. It is one of the types of kayotsarga mentioned by Mahavira. It reveals one mystery. The vital power attains its balance by doing urdhva kayotsarga and it cannot accumulate in excess anywhere. This is a mysterious experiment in the attainment of brahmacharya. Its secret is that the person with the tendency to be tied by attachments does not like to sit for long. He who is given to malevolence would not like to walk much. This is the principle of open science. For a person having ties of attachment, gamanayoga (location) is necessary. This formula very significant. It is an important formula for the attaining of urdhva-sthana brahmacharya.

Kayotsarga can also done in sitting position. The force of gravitation becomes less even in this. The force of gravitation is reduced a great deal when kayotsarga is done in the standing position. The increased force of gravitation produces heaviness. If one is seated in the state of kayotsarga the force of gravitation is reduced. The same thing happens if one does kayotsarga in the stretching position. This is a common type of kayotsarga. There are two more types of kayotsarga; vamaparshva (lain on the left side) kayotsarga and dakshina-parshva (lain on the right side) kayotsarga. When more activation is required and the vital energy has increased, one should do vama-parshva kayotsarga activates pingala (sympathetic nervous system). When we do dakshina-parshva kayotsarga, para-sympathetic nervous system is activated.

Thus, there are many results of kayotsarga. When think about kayotsarga from the point of view of health relieving the mind of its weight and of reducing physical and mental tension, many new aspects of kayotsarga are revealed. If anyone asks what is of fundamental importance in Prekshadhyana, the answer would be kayotsarga. The point of beginning of Prekshadhyana is kayotsarga and point of culmination of Prekshadhyana is also kayotsarga. It is for this reason that it can be described as the unfailing formula for spiritual health.
