Unique ways to make Austerity very easy (Tapasya)

The word ‘TAPA’ stands for the highest power in this world. It is said in Vedic Scriptures that whatever is impossible can be acquired through Tapa. It has power to turn the impossible into possible. According to Jain Darshan, our Karmas are the root cause of all sorrows in this world. The reason for Birth and Death is Karma. Tapa is one way through which these Karmas can be destroyed. It has been said in the Dashve kalik, ‘Tapasya Dhunai Purush Pa Berg’, which means Karmas of our previous birth can be destroyed with the Tapa. Just as Gold becomes pure after being heated in the fire, our Soul can get purified through Tapa. Tapa is the important test for moving towards the spiritual path. Tapa is such a powerful tool, which can force even God and demons to bow down, as it is a very strong way to purify one’s soul. Tapa is observed with the simplicity and sincerity. lt is not observed for any showmanship or any other wish. lt is mainly observed for the sole purpose of purification of our soul. With the help of Tapa, we can reduce feelings of Anger, Pride, Greed and Illusions.

In Jain Dharma, Tapasya are done in various forms i.e. Upvas, Bela, Tela, Chola, Panchola, Saat, Athai, Nav, Pandrah, Maas-khaman, 6 monthly fast, 12 monthly fast. But it is not possible for everybody to observe fasting. People can observe fast as per their physical capability. Everyone wishes to observe eight days fast or one month fast once in their life, but if their body doesn't support then they can’t do it.

Everybody wants to do some penance. Every person has this strong desire in the mind. He wants to do penance for twenty-eight days or a varsha tap, but the body does not co-operate. People do penance for the nullification of all deeds and purification of our soul. lt is very difficult to mention the greatness, magnitude, enormity, immensity, vastness, importance, Prominence and seriousness of penance. Penance is a miracle and the center of all kinds of miracle.

Penance purifies our mind; it wipes out all ill thoughts. It strengthens our mind and the mind turns into the endless treasure of power. Penance is like a sun which throws its rays all over. It is like a moon which gives boon of immortality. It is like a sea which is the abode of limitless treasure.

Lord Mahavir had mentioned in the uttaradyan Sutra ‘Bhav kodi snachiya kammat vasa nijjarijai’. That means penance can destroy the ill deeds of various life. It is a sacred fire which burns all the ill thoughts containing in the mind as well as body.

One who wants to undergo any penance IS unable to do so because of some health issues but he still has a desire to do the penance in peaceful and blissful environment.
