(Balanced Posture)

Now we present those asanas, which are practiced in standing position.

The posture that is formed by placing feet next to each other is called Sampadasana. According to modern science, during pre-evolution, a human being used to walk on fours. According to an experiment, creatures that walked on four feet used to get comparatively less sick than creatures that walked on two feet. The need to maintain balance of body was felt; hence creation of this asana.


Method

  1. Stand straight with both feet together.
  2. Keep hands absolutely close to body, palms open and touching thighs.
  3. Keep legs, back and neck absolutely straight and eyes in front; focusing on any one point.
  4. Keep mind focused and calm.

Sampadasana (Balanced Posture)


Duration

While practicing asana, inhalation and exhalation are normal. Rhythmic breathing also increases physical strength and capacity. Initially practice this asana for three minutes and then it can be increased to thirty minutes.


Effect on Health

Even though Sampadasana is a simple asana, benefits achieved by practice of this asana, are invaluable. With regular practice of this asana, bodily growth is balanced. Some people are in habit of putting more weight on one foot while standing. As a result, they mess up symmetry of their hips and shoulders. With practice of this asana this fault gets cured, spine and neck become erect. Not only does this asana help in achieving calmness, but also awareness.

Practice of this asana accords lightness to body thus reducing unnecessary pressure on the glands. This in turn keeps the connected organs balanced and healthy.


Other Benefits

With regular practice of this asana, a balance of mineral distribution in body is maintained. Along with proper blood purification and circulation, calmness and concentration develops.


Influence on Glandular System

With regular practice of this asana, body experiences lightness. This in turn reduces unnecessary pressure on glands thus keeping connected organs active and balanced.
