Brahmacharyasana

(Eternal Spirit Posture)

The word Brahm is a direct connotation to 'Parmatama' - God, soul, consciousness, the eternal self or soul. 'Parmatama' is final and ultimate true state of being of human soul. Self analysis or search for self is said to be staying in soul. The other meaning of Brahm is renouncing sexual pleasures. In Indian culture celibacy is regarded as the highest form of meditation. The importance of following the celibate's path during student life is universally recognised. This state can be achieved only when the yogic powers are channelised upwards. To be able to excel in education during student life, practice of brahmacharya or celibacy is of utmost importance. When a person follows brahmacharya, it is important to practice this asana. There are numerous ways to practice this asana. In the following text, a few methods are elucidate.

Method

Sit on floor with legs stretched out. Bend the legs and place them parallel to thighs and place hands on knees. If it is difficult to touch floor with knees then slowly raise them slightly off floor (where knees are comfortable). This will help in performing asana with ease.

Sex Centre (Kaam Kendra) and Knowledge Centre are two centres found in the human body. Siddhasana plays an important role in converting energy from sex centre to energy of knowledge centre. The stretch felt by gonads helps in keeping bodily needs and desires in check. This keeps mind and heart pure and clean. The development of energy generated in shakti kendra helps practitioner take his meditation to a higher level. The same method applies when practitioner needs to generate energy in shakti kendra.
