Eighteen Sins
(a) Misuse of prāṇa

The jīva possesses 10 life forces (prāṇa) - power of five senses organs, power of the body, speech and mind, life force pertaining to life span, and the power of respiration. Because of the misuse of these 10 life forces (prāṇas) the jiva is bound by karma. This misuse causes āsṛava (influx or karma).

(b) Cause of influx - Eighteen sources of sins
Following eighteen sources of sins also cause the influx of karma (āsṛava):
  1. Violence
  2. Falsehood
  3. Stealing
  4. Sexual activity
  5. Possessiveness
  6. Anger
  7. Ego
  8. Deceit
  9. Greed
  10. Attachment
  11. Hatred, quarrel
  12. False accusations
  13. Divulging some one's secrets
  14. Back biting
  15. Delight
  16. Excitement
  17. Calumniation
  18. Uttering deceptive falsehood and false belief.
