1 | Sātā Vedaniya karma | Causes happiness. |
2 | Tiryancāyu karma | decides the life span in the realm of animals, birds and plants etc. (tiryanca) |
3 | Manuṣyāyu karma | decides the life span in the human state. |
4 | Devāyu karma | decides the life span for the heavenly beings. |
5 | Devagati nāma karma | This karma brings the living being into that state of existence, known as deva state, it is pleasurable state, perhaps comparable to the Christian heaven. It is a state in which pleasures preponderates over pain, there is some pain but mostly pleasure. |
6 | Manuṣya gati nāma karma | This karma brings the living being into the human state, or ordinary human life. |
7 | Pancendriya nāma karma | Due to this karma, the living being has all five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. |
8 | Audārika śarīra nāma karma | Due to this karma, the living being has an ordinary physical body, that we actually see. This body is created out of gross pudgalas. The human being and tiryanca have this body. |
9 | Vaikriya śarīra nāma karma | Due to this karma, the living being has a subtle body, which is changeable, it may be large or small, have one shape and then another. The heavenly beings and hellish beings have this type of body. |
10 | Ahāraka śarīra nāma karma | Great munis who have mastered 14 pūrvas can develop this body. They use this body to visit to nearby Tīrthankara to clear their doubts. The size of the body is equivalent to the size of one hand. |
11 | Taijasa śarīra nāma karma | This karma gives a body which consumes food. |
12 | Kārmaṇa śarīra nāma karma | This karma gives a body which is made up of all the karmas put together. It is changing every moment. |
13 | Audārika upānga nāma karma | Due to this karma, the limbs and organs of the physical body are formed. Also formed are external and internal organs, arms, legs, ears, lungs etc. |
14 | Vaikriya upānga nāma karma | Forms the limbs and organs of the Vaikriya body. |
15 | Āhāraka upānga nāma karma | Produces the limbs of the āhāraka body. |
16 | Vajra Ṛsbha nārāca saṁhanana nāma karma | This karma gives the strongest joint. The ends of the bones are hooked into each other, there is a sort of bolt or pin through the hook, and the whole joint is covered with an envelop of tissue. Vajra means the "pin". |
17 | Samacatarasra Saṁsthana nāma karma (asṛa means angle) | Because of this karma, entire body is symmetrical. |
18 | Śubha Varṇa nāma karma | auspicious colour. |
19 | Śubha gandha nāma karma | auspicious order. |
20 | Śubha rasa nāma karma | auspicious taste. |
21 | Śubha sparśa nāma karma | auspicious touch. |
22 | Deva-anupurvi nāma karma | This karma decides the direction of living being, after his/her death towards the place of devas (There must be some force which causes the person at death to travel in planet or elsewhere, and this karma does that) |
23 | Manuṣya-anupurvi nāma karma | This karma decides the direction of travel at death, for the entity to go to the place of the human beings. |
24 | Praśṣata Vihāyogati nāma karma | This karma makes the living being to move in a pleasant manner. |
25 | Alaghu nāma karma | Due to this karma body is neither heavy nor light. It acquires agurulaghutā. |
26 | Praghata nāma karma | Due to this karma, jiva gets such an appearance that other feel impressed by the luster of his face. |
27 | Śwāśocchawāśa nāma karma | Due to this karma we acquire the power of inhaling and exhaling air. |
28 | Ātp nāma karma | Due to this karma, the jiva gets such a body that though it is cold, it gives heat and light to others like the sun. |
29 | Udyoth nāma karma | Due to this karma the jiva acquires a body which gives out of a cool, gleaming light, like moon light. |
30 | Nirmāṇa nāma karma | This karma produces organs in the body in their proper places like carpenter. |
31 | Tīrthankara nāma karma or Jinanama karma | Due to this karma the jiva is decorated with the eight kinds of greatness and in that state he/she will get an opportunity for establishing and disseminating the dharma śāsana. |
32 | Trasa nāma karma | This karma gives a body that can voluntarily move about. |
33 | Bādara nāma karma | This karma gives a body that can be seen. |
34 | Paryāpta nāma karma | Because of this karma, one gets the power of reaching upto his proper limits. |
35 | Pratyeka nāma karma | By this each jiva gets a separate body. |
36 | Sthira nāma karma | By this jiva gets fixed an firm organs like head, bones, teeth etc. |
37 | Śubha nāma karma | This gives auspicious organs above the navel. |
38 | Saubhāgya nāma karma | Because of this karma, the jiva is liked by others even without helping others. |
39 | Suswara nāma karma | By this one gets a sweet voice. |
40 | Ādeya nāma karma | Because of this karma, the words of jiva are understood by others. Even at the very sight of him/her others honour him/her. |
41 | Yaśa nāma karma | Because of this karma, the jiva gets the adoration from others. |
42 | Uccagotra nāma karma | Due to this jiva attains wealth, honourable treatment, honours etc. and are born in high families. Thus as above one enjoys the fruits of punya in 42 different ways. |
