Volunteer for JCSC Library

Written copies of manuscripts and Jain literature have long played an important role in Jain intellectual, ritual, and community life. In the absence of any living enlightened teachers—according to Jain cosmological doctrines, enlightenment in this era became impossible shortly after the demise and liberation of last Tirthankar Mahāvīr prabhu, the texts containing the teachings of Mahāvīr prabhu are essential for the guidance of any Jain community.

In an contentious effort to overhaul and expand our Jain Center of Southern California (JCSC) Library, we are looking for talented and experienced individuals within our community to help us with a number of Library related tasks, such as creating a digital database of our books, creating and assigning unique barcode for each of our books, classifying each book for a category, etc. Eventually, this endeavor of rebuilding, organizing and digitizing our Library will help us all and especially to our children. This Library will help us preserve and share the Jainism through next generation.

We plan to have a new Library software that could streamline the management of our books and operations of our library. But for now, we are looking for at least 20 individuals who could help us with the library tasks.

All the volunteers can:
  • Receive college credits for your volunteer time and service for JCSC.
  • Be recognized by Jain Center with certificate for your volunteer work.
  • Lastly and very importantly, providing Seva for our JCSC Library is Sadhna bhakti towards the Gyan and is deemed to be a Gyan Upasana. Such Gyan Upasana helps us get rid of gyanavarniya karma.

How much Commitment is needed?
  • Minimum of 8 hours per Volunteer
  • Need help during weekends of month of December 2018, January and february 2019.

Kartiki Punam & Pat Darshan
(actual Fri,Nov 23rd, 2018,
observed - Sun Nov 25th, 2018)

Kartiki Punam night is considered as the brightest full moon night in the whole year as the rainy season is supposed to end and the sky is all clear.
This is the day to resolve to free oneself of basic instincts.
In the rainy/monsoon season, all Acharya Bhagvants, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Munis etc stay at one place and do not travel for four months.
This starts from Ashadh Sud Chaturdashi and ends on Kartik Sud Punam.
After Kartik Punam, their vihar starts again to spread the knowledge of Principles of Jainism such as Truth, Ahimsa, and Compassion etc.
