Anuvrat - an addiction free oath programme, was organised by the Acharya Tulsi Birth Centenary Committee at Adhyatma Sadhna Kendra, Mehrauli in New Delhi on Thursday.
Around 8000 students under Vidya Bharti Akhil Bhartiya Educational Organization in and around Delhi took pledge to abstain from alcohol, tobacco and all types of drugs during the programme.
The event also saw participation of several eminent personalities like former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr Minendra Risal, Minister of Information & Communication (Govt of Nepal), BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, actor and director Satish Kaushik, according to a press release.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam supporting this initiative said, “I have worked a lot with Archarya ji Tulsi all over India in this Anuvrat Movement. It was our vision to create heaven on earth, then going to heaven. Every school student should follow rules of Anuvrat for ignited & bright India. ”
Mr. Kamal Kumar Dugar, Chief Convener, Archarya Tulsi Birth Centenary Committee, said “ This national de-addiction oath ceremony is a tribute to Late Jain Acharya Shri Tulsi on his 100th birth anniversary and it’s the best gift Indian students could for their teachers on the upcoming teachers day. I have only given a helping hand to create an addiction free society. ”
“It was a wonderful event; I have seen lot of NGOs who have worked for the upliftment of society, children & women, but Anuvrat started by Acharya Tulsi is the only one in India that is working to create an addiction free nation”, said actor Anil Kapoor at the event.
Meenakshi Lekhi, who was also present at the event said, “Students today are the future tomorrow; I have not come across any organization in India that has been working towards inculcating moral values in school children to create an addiction free India.”
“One has to water the roots & not the stem to make a strong foundation. This de- addiction oath ceremony is an attempt to strengthen the roots of Indian culture, so that the children who are the future tomorrow can illuminate the nation with strong moral values & imbibed discipline, added Akshay Muni.
The national event by Vidya Bharti Akhil Bhartiya Educational Organization (a central body and trust of a large number of schools in various parts of India) pays tribute to late Jain Acharya Shri Tulsi on his 100th birth anniversary.
Acharya Tulsi, who was a great national saint, dedicated his life for the entire mankind. He started Anuvrat Movement to create addiction and vices free society by inculcating moral values in school students.
Initiating nation-wide campaign, he undertook the journey on foot in all corners of the country to create awareness and respect for moral values and to inspire students to assimilate those values in their lives.
Taking the values & teachings forward, students & the community are joining hands to create an ethical & moral environment around.
What is Anuvrat?
Acharya Tulsi was the founder of Anuvrat Movement. Anu means atom & vrat means vows.
“Anuvrat” means small resolutions; a person who accepts these vows is an Anuvrati. The Anuvrat movement seeks to use small, achievable steps to build character, purify life and develop & strengthen will power. It aims to build a healthy society based on foundation of morality.Vidya Bharati understands that Anuvrat Andolan leads to transformation of the society, which is basically what this organization is trying to do through its schools.
About Acharya TulsiI birth centenary celebration 2013-2014
The birth centenary of Acharya Tulsi (www.acharyatulsi.in), the IXth Head of Jain Shwetamber Terapanth is being celebrated from November 5, 2013 to October 25, 2014 under the spiritual guidance of the present Anuvrat Spiritual head Acharya Mahashraman.
An important event in this chain of year-long celebration is the addiction free oath programme.
Dr Radhkrishnan in his book 'Living with a Purpose' included him in the world’s 14 great persons. He was given the title “Yug-Pradhan” in a function presided over by President V.V. Giri in the year1971.
