Why should you support JAINpedia?

My name is Jasmine Kelly and I'm the content manager of JAINpedia.org

Working closely with Nalini Balbir, editor-in-chief of the website, my main responsibility is to edit content and ensure it meets our standards.

When I joined the project in 2009, it struck me that JAINpedia.org was a very ambitious project, with admirable goals. We're very proud of what we've accomplished - and we keep being told that we're doing a great job - but we haven't even met our key aims yet!

When you look at the website, you'll see a huge amount of material but, believe it or not, only about half the articles we've planned are currently live. As well as new articles, we're hoping to publish more digitised manuscripts and artefacts, especially Digambara items, but this all needs to be financed. The feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive even though we're only halfway through.

It would be fantastic to complete JAINpedia, thus meeting our goal of becoming the best online resource for Jainism. The freely available project is invaluable as an educational resource, unparalleled on the web, and reaches people of all backgrounds and levels of knowledge.

The principal reason I believe it's important that JAINpedia continues is so new generations and all parts of the world can explore significant elements of human culture and heritage. Understanding more about what makes us in the present day and about other societies, past and present, helps us to orient ourselves as products of the past and as shapers of the future. It can help us make better-informed decisions in the present, which then frame the future for our shared planet.

Pledging to JAINpedia means that you are taking an active role in receiving what has been handed down to us all and passing it on to future generations around the world. Please donate on our crowdfunding site to keep JAINpedia.org going and to help us fulfil the vision.
