The last rites of the Jain spiritual leader Amar Muni jee, who had breathed his last on Wednesday, were performed at Lord Mahavir Homeopathic College and Hospital on Thursday, in presence of a large number of members of Jain community from across the country.
Chief advisor of All India Jain Conference, Hira Lal Jain, who is a resident of Atam Nagar and was very close to the spiritual leader, said that born in 1936 and taken to the path of spirituality in his childhood days, the religious leader had formed over 100 public welfare institutions that are working for the cause of humanity till date. He gave Deeksha (initiatiion) to more than 108 people into Jainism during his lifetime.
"He was a saint in the real sense of the word despite suffering from diseases. Despite being on dialysis, there was no sign of pain on his face that was always illuminated with energy. Even in his last moments, he never uttered a word to say that he was in pain," said Hira Lal.
"It was owing to the efforts of Amar Munijee that the Jain principles and knowledge about Jainism reached the whole world through different books on Jainism, which Munijee kept sending to libraries across the world. Such a saint is born once in a thousand years," he added.
A congregation comprising people of Jain community and spiritual leaders including All India Jain Conference, Shwetambar Sabha national President Avinash Choraria and state president Rakesh Jain, Ram Kumar Jain, industrialist and Vishva Jain of Kangaroo Industries joined in to pay homage to the departed soul.
The congregation started from Jain Sthanak near Fountain Chowk and culminated at Lord Mahavir Homeopathic College and Hospital, where the spiritual leader's last rites were performed by his brother Ram Kumar Jain, who resides in Delhi. A Shradhanjali Sabha would be organised at Jain Sthanak near Civil lines on Sunday, it was announced.
Amar Muni had breathed his last at Deep Hospital in Model Town area on Thursday. He was not keeping well for quite some time and was on dialysis for the last two years.
