The first lesson to enter the field of spiritual practice is - do not be remiss.
When a Jain muni is initiated the first lesson he is taught is not be remiss.
The weakness of the sense organs is to be remiss.
Passionate emotions and limitless sleep are remiss.
Talks that will excite feelings of sex and quarrel are also remiss of conduct.

A person who is not remiss possess the following qualities:

1. He uses his senses but not with a sense of attachment.
2. He experiences mental and inner peace.
3. He develops a feeling of alertness.
4. He becomes the sun for the development of spiritual consciousness.
