Conduct is the essence of knowledge.
So, only that knowledge will be useful which does not increase arrogance, is not binding, does not make one forget oneself but instead, helps in rectifying the Samskaras and leads towards mental peace.
The acid test for the usefulness of knowledge is that it should lead towards the soul.

Knowledge that leads away from the soul is called ignorance in Indian literature.
