Sanskrit: श्रमण (śramaṇa); Pāli/Prakrit: समण (samaṇa),

a wandering monk in certain ascetic traditions of ancient India, including Jainism, Buddhism, and Ājīvika religion (now extinct). Famous śramaṇa include religious leaders Mahavira and Gautama Buddha.
