1.3.3 Ācārya Dharasena, Ācārya Puṣpadanta and Ācārya Bhūtabali: ‘Ṣaṭkhandāgama’

In ‘Ṣaṭkhandāgama, the path of liberation (freedom from karmic bondage) has been described using the following terminology:

  1. udīraṇā-upakram adhikāra (उदीरणा उपक्रम अधिकार)
  2. upaśamana-upakrama adhikāra (praśasta / apraśasta) (उपशमन उपक्रम अधिकार (प्रशस्त / अप्रशस्त))
  3. viparīta-upakrama adhīkāra (विपरिणाम उपक्रम अधिकार)
  4. Mokṣa (मोक्ष)

    1. Udīraṇā-upakram adhikāra (उदीरणा उपक्रम अधिकार):
under this the fruition of nature, duration, intensity and space is described in detail.

    2. Upaśamana-upakrama adhikāra (praśasta / apraśasta) (उपशमन उपक्रम अधिकार (प्रशस्त / अप्रशस्त))
under this, on the basis of nature, duration, intensity and space praśasta-upaśamana and apraśasta- upaśamana is described.

    3. Viparīta-upakrama adhīkāra (विपरिणाम उपक्रम अधिकार)
under this, the dissociation of karma (nature, duration, intensity and space points) have been described from two view points
      1. partial dissociation (deśa- nirjarā)
      2. complete dissociation (sakala-nirjarā).

    4. Mokṣa (मोक्ष) -
under this, through partial dissociation and complete dissociation - the infection of other’s-nature (par-prakṛṭi-saṅkramaṇa), up-traction(utkarṣaṇ), attenuation (apkarṣaṇa) and stabilization (sthiti) which respectively cause nature-bondage, duration-bondage, intensity-bondage, space-point-bondage - all these bondages are dissociated from the soul, have been described. This is the emancipation.
