Mathura
Hindi: मथुरा mathurā
is a city in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. During the ancient period, Mathura was located at the junction of important caravan routes and became a center of arts which is known as the place were the first images of Jina and Buddha were made.
According to the Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana epics, Mathura was the capital of the Surasena Kingdom and is the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The city is the centre of Braj region, where Krishna is believed to have spent his early years.
