Dr. (Mrs.) Charlotte Krause was a German Jaina Shravika and a scholar of Indology and Jainology.
She was born on May 18, 1895 in Halle on the river Saale, Germany, her parents were Anna and Hermann Krause, a merchant and patron of fine arts. She studied oriental languages, especially Sanskrit, and comparative linguistics at several German universities with such specialists as Richard Garbe (Tübingen) and Ernst Windisch and Johannes Hertel (Leipzig). She received her Ph.D. in 1920. In 1925 she moved to India and focused on Jainology. Charlotte Krause was fluent in several Indian languages (e.g. Hindi, Gujarati) and wrote many articles and essays on Jainism. She died at January 27, 1980 in Gwalior.
