Jeevan Vigyan - 8: Preface

Published: 14.09.2018

JEEVAN VIGYAN can be termed as a regulated study of the system of life. This has two aspects. The exterior aspect of life pertains to materialistic aspirations, attitudes and behaviour in which it is important to provide all those goods which are essential to life-support system. Side by side, it is also imperative to provide for a sound, spiritual system in order to lead a peaceful and contented life. It may be asserted that Jeevan Vigyan is a manifestation of coordination between the two above said aspects of life. In the conventional educational system, emphasis has been more on the exterior aspect of life, but the same degree of emphasis is found totally lacking in the case of spiritual development of a student. Inner aspect of life is related to bio-chemicals pulsar and sensory perceptions, vibratory symptoms of life-support systems, but the greater area to be covered is that of immaculate perception of conscious mind. This cannot be achieved by sermonic lectures alone. There are certain regulatory functions which are most essential to develop the inner aspect of life i.e. Preksha, Anupreksha, Asana, Pranayama, Kayotsarg & determination (Sankalpa). Besides it is also essential to understand the theoretical aspect of internal, physical schematization as well as human psychology. It is only the coordinated balance of the two aforesaid aspects that can lead to development of a personality which is capable of ensuring a peaceful and contented life.

Dr. Radha Krishna Commission, Shri Prakash Commission, Kothari Commission have suggested various reforms in our educational system in their reports. Moral Education was accepted as an integral part of education in these respects. In keeping with the general principles of the new educational policy, value oriented education has been conceptualized. Therefore, practical and value oriented education is JEEVAN VIGYAN.

Ganadhipati Shri Tulsi and Acharya Shri Mahaprajna had undertaken this momentous task. They carried out various experiments on teachers as well as students. Educationists have subjected the result of these experiments to various tests and the outcome was found to be immensely promising. Text books for different levels of classes were prepared in accordance with the recommendations and considered opinions of meritorious educationists of Department of Education, Rajasthan. This text book has been invested with an individuality so as to make it useful and worthy of study. We have had the rare privilege of constant support from Muni Shri Dharmendra Kumar Ji and we are profoundly grateful to him for him. Shri Mangi Lal Jain, Director, Jeevan Vigyan Academy, Ajmer, has been meaningfully associated in this endeavour. We hope that this book would prove its merit in the educational field. We would welcome suggestions from readers so as to use them as guidelines while preparing the second edition.
