Tulasana

(Weighing Scale Posture)

The posture assumed during practice of this asana resembles a weighing scale-Tula-and hence it is called Tulasana. While assuming the posture, since entire body resembles the scales, it is in perfect balance. The entire body weight is centered on toes of any one foot and a part of weight is borne by thigh and knee of same foot.

Squat on mat. Raise heels and balance body on toes. Lift any one leg and place it above thigh of other leg in such a way that you are sitting in a half cross-legged posture. It is definitely difficult to sit in this posture but not impossible.

Focus on any point in front and balance can be maintained. This is a little trick while doing balancing asanas. Now join palms in Namaskar mudra and place them at centre of chest. Spine and neck remain erect.

Toes have nerve endings that are connected to various organs in our body. During practice of this asana, total body weight is on toes and hence they experience pressure. This pressure felt by nerve endings keeps them healthy and active. In turn, all organs connected to these nerve endings also function at optimum efficiency.
