PROGRAM TO STUDY JAIN DHARMIC/RELIGIOUS  TRADITION IN  INDIA

Jain Dharma/Religion originated in India several thousand years ago. An elder cousin of Buddhism, Jain dharma teaches a lifestyle rooted in the practice of unconditional non-violence. Its teachings inspired and influenced Mahatma Gandhi.

Students and scholars will learn about Jain traditions from learned lay scholars as well as practicing monks and nuns in India. 

Designed for undergraduate and graduate students, Post-Doctoral Fellows, full time faculty and School Teachers, with an interest in the Jaina Studies and ahimsa (non –violence), the, three, four  and six week long, stand alone and separate intensive courses in International Summer School for Jain Studies (ISSJS) 2014 will entail morning lectures, afternoon field trips, time in a few ancient cities and meetings with Jain professionals, monks and  nuns.

Since 2005, every summer ISSJS have been offered regularly in India, the # of participants has seen a steady increase; and more than 375 students and scholars  from many universities  have participated in ISSJS programs.  

ISSJS is unique in that

• It is India based and makes India a class room for the study of ahimsa, Jain, history, culture and philosophy.

• It is highly subsidized financially and in some cases offers quite attractive financial assistance (complete boarding, lodging and tuition) also.

The International Summer School for Jain Studies (ISSJS) invites you to study in India this summer. ISSJS is offering three programs that vary in length, content, and intensity, each designed for individuals in different stages of study.

• ·        6-Week Scholars Program (June 1-July 13) for graduate students and faculty.
• ·        4-Week Student Program (June 1-June 29) for undergraduate and graduate students.
• ·        3-Week Teaching for Peace Program (July 15-August 5) for K-12 educators, professionals and activists.

 Please note that all programs are administered by ISSJS in India; Claremont Lincoln University only promotes or assists in facilitating them.
