On Friday 14 December 2012, charity ‘Sense International’ for deafblind children was presented with a cheque for £65,278 from funds raised by the Love of Faith Charity Walk that was held in central London in June. The charity walk was organised by the Harrow-based Jain organisation - Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur UK (SRMD UK) - and formed part of the Jain Community’s offering to ‘A Year of Service’ in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. Walkers and corporate contributions raised an amazing £129,556 in total which will be shared between UK-based Sense International and SR Love & Care in India.
Attending the event at Sense’s Anne Wall Centre in Barnet, were the Mayor of Harrow Cllr Nizam Ismail, Harrow Cllr Ajay Maru, Sense International Chairman Sunil Sheth, and President of SRMD UK Mayur Mehta who commented “We take for granted our ability to see and hear, and the incredible work of Sense highlights the sheer challenge faced to help improve the lives of those who simultaneously suffer from a deficiency in both sight and hearing - we very much admire the dedication of their staff and hope the funds raised will make a difference to many lives.” This charitable fundraising is in line with the SRMD’s mission statement to ‘Realise one’s True Self and serve others selflessly’.
