English Pratikraman during Paryushan
SCVP is pleased to inform that this year we are performing Pratikraman for all 8 days, with sutras being recited in English as well as the original language. The aim is for people, both young and old, to understand the process and essence of this most important of all Jain festivals.
We have now been doing the English Pratikraman at Kingsbury High School for the past two days.
It has been a profound experience especially since the Samayik and Pratikraman sutras have been translated so lucidly into English.
The children who have been attending have also found the process interesting as they can relate to the translations and it is amazing to see that they are also participating and thinking about what positive things they can do even whilst they are at school and in their spare time!
The attendance has been about 20-40 people and all who attended had one comment
" We never understood the sutras but now clearly understand their importance and the relevance of doing pratikraman"
We hope to see more of you as the days go. Please note that on Wednesday we will start Pratikraman at a slightly earlier time of 6.30pm. On all other days we will be starting at 7pm sharp.
