Report On Monthly Meet On The Subject Of “Effective Persona - Communication And Presentation Skill” Organised By Terapanth Professional Forum (TPF) - Kolkata Branch On Saturday, The 18th February 2012 At Bhikshu Granthagar, Mahasabha Bhavan, Kolkata.

TPF Kolkata Branch organized its Monthly Meet on the subject of "Effective Persona - Communication and Presentation skill" on 18th February 2012 at the Bhikshu Granthagar of Mahasabha Bhavan, Kolkata wherein nearly 45 Professionals and invitees took part.

The theme of the Meet was keeping in mind the International Speaker Development Program on the five designated Jain Subjects as blessed to TPF by Acharya Shri Mahashraman Ji. The objective was to motivate members for the program by imparting basic information on the courses, briefing them on how to initiate the studies and how to prepare oneself for effective public speaking and presentation.

To aptly justify the objective,Guest Speakers for the Meet were Dr. Manju Nahata, learned scholar on Jain Philosophy and CS Mamta Binani, leading soft skill trainer in Kolkata.

The Meet began with the holy chanting of Namaskar Mahamantraby Shri Rakesh Singhi, TPF Member in chorus with all the present.

Shri Prakash Chand Maloo, Kolkata Branch Presidentwelcomed guests and other participants. In his address, he expressed gratitude towards Acharya Shri Mahashraman Ji for blessing TPF with the task of developing international level speakers on Jain Philosophy, Terapanth Philosophy, Preksha Dhyan, Anuvrat and Jivan Vigyan. He urged all the professionals to come forward and enroll in this elite program according to one’s ability and interest. He also urged participants to take cues from both the learned Speakers to develop skills in becoming a good public speaker on all front.

Shri Narendra Kumar Shyamsukha, TPF National President, congratulated Kolkata branch for initiating on International Level Speaker Development program and wish for more participants to come forward. He also presented a snap shot of various national level activities and briefed about Scholarship Programin association with some premier institutes of India, being launched by TPF at National level for Engineering, MBA, BBA, Media Management and Fashion Designing students. He appealed all the participants to spread awareness about the program and help more and more students to take benefit of the scholarship scheme.

Shri Prakash Baid, TPF National Vice President-Eastthrew light on the need of having a bold and effective presentation skill specially for the professionals who are going to speak in any public forum. He expressed thanks to both the learned speakers for their valuable time for the Meet.

Shri Rajesh Ghorawat, Joint Secretary-TPF Kolkata Branchanchored the meet effectively and introduced both the speakers to the members present.

Dr. Manju Nahata, in her profound deliberation, enlightened the participants on importance of Jainism, Terapanth Philosophy, Preksha Dhyan, Anuvrat and Jivan Vigyan in their day to day life as well as professional field. She cited practical examples where one can practice these principles. She asserted that with steadfast faith and regular practice on these subjects, one is sure to achieve overall success in life. Reminding of the faith placed on TPF by Acharya Shri Mahapragya Ji and Acharya Shri Mahashraman Ji, she stressed that TPF must come forward and lead in taking Jain Terapanth Dharma Sangha to newer heights.

All the participants of the International Speaker Development Program present in the Meet had personal interaction with Dr. Manju Nahata and she was kind enough to offer her guidance and needful help in clarifying any doubts that may arise during the preparation stage particularly for Jainology. Shri Narendra Kumar Shyamsukha, TPF National President, assured Dr. Nahata that very soon TPF shall arrange for Video Conferencing classes for participants wherein they would be able to receive guidance from Dr. Nahata and other learned scholars.

The next session was on effective communication and presentation skill which was taken by CS Mamta Binanithrough her Power Point Presentation. Deliberating on Effective Communication, she highlighted that

  • There are various forms of communication
  • One should choose the communication mode which can effectively convey his / her thought and feelings
  • Communication should not be ambiguous in language
  • Use simple language
  • Use Salutation words at the beginning of the communication
  • Avoid unnecessary repetitions
  • Highlight main points
  • Don’t charge other person at one go

While deliberating on Public Speaking, she said that facing the public is not always easy even for an established speaker. However one can overcome the leg shaking syndrome by planning and regular practice. One has to be very clear in his / her idea that is going to be presented before the public. One cannot afford to hesitate in answering public queries. However she advised to tackle the unexpected situation in a smart manner involving your audience. Clothing, Body Posture, Eye Contact and Smile are the best tools to effective presentation.

Through a factual case, she also demonstrated how to use the Power Point Program for more clear and meaningful presentation.

All through her lucid and crisp deliberation, she kept the audience spell bound and involving. At the end, she thanked TPF, Kolkata Branch for the wonderful topic..

Shri Sanjay Jain, executive committee member of TPF Kolkata Branch also briefed the house about Entrepreneurial Mentoring program initiated by TPF in association with CIIE (A group of Alumni from IIM-Ahmedabad). He requested all present to take benefit from this initiative.

Mementos were also presented to Dr. Manju Nahata by Shri Indraj Mal Nahata, Treasurer-TPF Kolkata Branch and to CS Mamta Binani by Smt. Kalpana Baid, Executive committee member of TPF, Kolkata Branch.
