General Information
The study of Jainism has a long tradition within the indological section of German universities. Numerous scholars cultivated the research of Jaina religion and culture since the late 19th century. Among them were some of the leading experts of Jainology like Hermann Jacobi, Walther Schubring, Ludwig Alsdorf etc.
The names of these scholars are well-known and some of their books are available in numerous reprints, but other parts of their extensive work are something of a rarity; many papers and articles are for a long time out of print and usually hard to find, even in specialized libraries.
To make these important studies available again to the academic Jainology, this online archive has been created. Reissued papers and articles by German scholars of Jainology, published before 1990 and out of print today, will be serially added to this online resource in future.
