Akasa, Akash, Ākāśa, ākāsh

Void Space, Ether

Sanskrit:

a - towards
kasa - to be visible, to appear

Akasa is the subtle ”background” against which everythingin the material universe becomes perceptible. [Yogananda, 2007; p. 867]

In the Jain conception of cosmos it is void space, a real, infinite, eternal, indivisible unit - not expanding.
