(Regd. Charity No 1063694)

Dear Friends,

We wish you all a very happy Deepawali and joyous new year.

"Deepa means a lamp and avali means a row. The word literally means a row of lights. We normally think that Deepawali is about a lamplight, a deepa. In fact, Deepawali is not about a single deepa, it is about many. It is about a collective, an organization, a formation of lamps. It is about the relationship between one lamp and the rest of the lamps in the collective. The secret message of deepawali is hidden in its very name. Deepawali is the festival of lights symbolizing the lighting of the lamp of knowledge and removing ignorance, in our lives, and in those of others. It is this deeper message of social consciousness behind the glamour of Deepawali, is the message for living with Harmony and to forget the hatred and differences."

I take this opportunity to inform that annual function held in Snehalaya on 23rd and 24th Aug. went well and the building work for the new School within Snehalaya campus is progressing satisfactorily targeted to complete by June 2010. Details as well new Souvenir for year 2009 with all the updates and information as well photographs are available and can be downloaded from news and Souvenir shop pages on http://gchvols.pbwiki.com  Now we have 63 children in Snehalaya, mostly disabled and or sick, but only 37 have been sponsored so far. Please consider sponsoring a disabled child in Snehalaya, giving him /her a new life and opportunity to become independent and live with dignity, just for £20 or US$40 or Rs.1500 PM (or equivalent in your currency). Just ask me for details or further information.

We have handcrafted greeting cards and many other gift items made by or with the help of our children in Snehalaya, samples attached with and are available on http://gchvols.pbworks.com/SouvenirShop All money is used to provide for these children only.

We do need volunteers from all walks of life, who can help us from their own place and or by working with us on floor in India as per their own convenience for any number of days/weeks/months or years. Please pass on our message to every one you know and do not hesitate to call me or write to me for any questions or further details as required. We are very much obliged for your support bringing this work to this stage and hope for its continuing for many more years to come in future.

Thanks again, with regards and enjoy Diwali with our best wishes for the prosperous New Year,

BK
