On Sunday 5th July approximately 170 people, young and old alike, gathered to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Acharyashree Mahapragya in the auspicious presence of Samanijis. The function started with a rousing bhakti by Shrimad Rajchandra Dharampur Group. Following this a brief introduction to the event and a life history of Acharyashree was given by the compare for the day, Saggar Malde as well as a welcome to all by Balwantji Maru, the president of Jain Vishva Bharati London.

The adults of JVB then presented a lovely play, both informative and funny entitled Mahapragya Health Heaven. The play provided guidance based on Acharyashree’s books on many physical, mental and emotional ailments affecting us in our daily lives. The advice was well appreciated by everyone present.

Dr Candida Nastrucci, an Italian scientist was invited to say a few words. Although not born a Jain, she has developed a strong inclination to Ahimsa. She practices strict vegetarianism and her work is dedicated to advancing medicine in a non-violent manner. She was truly inspirational.

Jain Vishva Bharati then launched a leaflet entitled “Enrich Your Life through Non-Violence”. Mayurbhai Mehta performed the honours. Samani Rohit Pragyaji explained more about the leaflet and the forthcoming training program on non-violence which will be commencing later on this year.

Wenda Shehata of Hugletts Wood Farm gave a short talk about her experiences of working with the Jain Community. Hugletts is a modern day Panjrapor dedicated to caring for animals. It was well enjoyed.

Saggar Malde presented a song written by Acharya Tulsi entitled Jai He Jai Jeevan Data.

Samani Prasanna Pragyaji gave wonderful lecture addressing many points. She discussed various aspects of Acharyashree, the benefits of controlling anger, of compromise, advice to couples. Members of the audience shared their experiences of meeting Gurudev.

Certificates and gifts were then presented by Vinodbhai Kapashi, Pushpaji Jain and Natasha Shah to Jain Vishva Bharati gyanshala students for their hard work, exam results and attendance throughout the year.  The gifts were kindly donated by Truptiben Shah.

Manikji Choraria, the secretary of Jain Vishva Bharati gave a brief talk to the audience about the work of JVB and its future prospects. Finally Kaushikbhai Khajuria and Punit Haria then presented a song describing the value of compassion.

After the program the audience proceeded to the small hall where the children of JVB gyanshala had organised a wonderful exhibition depicting various aspects of ahimsa, with the hope of raising some funds for the Mahapragya International School in Tamkor. The children put in a lot of effort and everyone enjoyed the exhibition and donated generously to this worthwhile cause. Following the exhibition light refreshments were served, sponsored by Nirmalji and Pushpaji Banthia

Congratulations to all the participants in the program for their hard work which was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
