On Samvatsari, Sadhvishree Nirvanshree started her discourse at 8:00 am non-stop until 4:00 pm. She started her talk by presenting a song by Gurudev Tulsi where the different types of lay followers are described - those who visit monks or nuns daily (Sadia), those who visit them in the month of Bhavda or during Paryushan (Bhadiya) and those who come once a year on Samvatsari (Kadia). The importance of Paryushan...

These ten days of Paryushan at JVB London were not only spiritual highlights, but also highlights of amity and hospitality to us. The people cared very much and integrated us into their community, we really felt part of it. We were invited to their houses for meals and wonderful talks, an experience not to be missed. All this made us feel to have celebrated Paryushan in it's real sense. THANKS!

The last day of Paryushan, Samvatsari, at JVB London this year fell on Monday, 28th August. It was British Bank Holiday, a fact seen as very auspicious by many people celebrating Paryushan at JVB London, as they try to fast completely the whole day and the following night long up to the next day's sunrise. This means that one stays for about 36 hours without eating, some people do not even take water.

Saturday, 26th August, was a day of meetings. Dinesh Z. Shah, author of quite a number of reports in HereNow4U on JVB London's activities, had invited us to take our Ekasana Lunch at his house. His wife Latika still remembered Karuna's favorite Paryushan dish from the last years and promised to serve the same. In the morning, we had met Dr. Atul Shah at JVB London's morning lecture. He also contributed to the...

Thursday, 24th August was a very special day. This evening, not only that Mrs. Nahata gave her wonderful performance with keyboard and voice, there were also two special social events to celebrate, two special anniversaries. One was the completion of the first year after birth, the other was the 26th wedding anniversary.

During the week of Paryushan, every morning from 10:00-11:30 am the Samanijis gave lectures in English and Hindi language and had organised a special program for the kids. Every lecture was for 45 minutes, the other 45 minutes, each Samaniji cared for the kids. The kid's program was conducted in English language, as all of the youngsters had been born in London. On Sunday 20th August, one day before Paryushan started, we all were invited to Raksha's and Rajeev's house to participate in a Bhaktamar Stotra Pooja celebrated there. A four-storied ritual shrine had been installed in front of the window, wonderfully illuminated from the daylight. Rajeev (standing left in his Pooja clothes) is lightening candles. His son (sitting) looks into the camera. Raksha (sitting, seen...

The Paryushan Festival is meant to be a time of introspection, meditation and purification. When the London Samanijis invited us to celebrate it together with the members of the London Jain community at JVB London, both of us wondered how we can go both, since there would be no new publications during this time in HereNow4U . Please make use of: Online Pratikraman and other and...
