Chaumasi Chaudas - Nov 03, 2017

Jains celebrate  Chaumasi Chaudas three times in a year on the fourteenth day of Kartik, Falgun and Ashadh months.

Kartik Sud 14,Nov 3rd, is Chaumasi Chaudas.

Things to do on Nov 3rd, 2017:
Devotees do Tap (Penance), Meditation, Dev-Vandan, Chaumasi Pratikraman etc.
In Dev Vandan  do Chaitya-Vandan to all 24 Tirthankars.
Because of rainy season from Ashadhi Chaudas to Kartik Chaudas (four Months) our Sadhus & Sadhavis stay at one place. On Kartik Poonam day they start traveling to another place as the rainy season is over.

Kartiki Punam & Pat Darshan (Actual Nov 4, 2017, Observed - Nov 5, 2017)

JCSC Executive Committee and Board of Directors wishes everybody a Very Happy Deepawali and a Prosperous, Peaceful and Healthy,New Year,Vikram Samvat 2074 (Vir Samvat 2544).

Kartiki Punam night is considered as the brightest full moon night in the whole year as the rainy season is supposed to end and night sky is all clear.

This is the day to resolve to free oneself of basic instincts.

In the rainy/monsoon season, all Acharya Bhagvants, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Munis etc stay at one place and do not travel for four months.

This starts from Aso Sud Chaturdashi and ends on Kartik Sud Punam.

On Kartik Punam their Vihar starts again, to spread the knowledge of Principles of Jainism such as Truth, Ahimsa, and Compassion etc.

Thus Kartiki Punam has a big significance for all Jains.

We will have Kartiki Punam Celebration on two days as below:

JCSC will observe Thanksgiving Day with Bhaktamara Stotra Paath.
Bhaktamara Stotra is the most famous of the Jain prayers.
It was composed by Acharya Manatunga. Bhaktamara stotra is gem of devotional Jain literature.

We pray that all the people of the world will avoid inflicting harm on animals
and fellow human beings and practice nonviolence and compassion.
We express our sorrow at the suffering of all the turkeys and other animals that have died.
May peace and compassion grow in ourselves and extend to all around us.

Wellness Challenge - Drink A Cup Of Tea Every Day

For the upcoming weekly challenge, we are challenging the participants to “Drink A Cup of Tea Every day." Tea is one of the most loved beverages worldwide.  Alongside coffee and water, it’s also one of the most consumed.  The many types of tea and different ways it is consumed makes it a diverse and enjoyable drink. With such a high level of popularity, a lot of research has followed looking at the effect tea has on the body.  This has been joined with studies looking at the benefits tea drinking might have.
