Floods in Gujarat have devastating consequences for humans as well as animals in affected areas. Both the World Community Service of JAINA and the Jivdaya Committee of JAINA have started fund drives for relief purposes. Jains of North America have always responded generously in the past whenever and wherever disaster strikes. I am sure our community will respond in the exemplary manner in this instance too. 4. KELLOGG'S USES GELATIN IN ITS PRODUCT


According to Kellogg’s, gelatin is used to help the texture of the product and is derived from either beef or pork. In the United States, gelatin derived from beef is found in all varieties of Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats cereal. Read the information for their other products.

A: Gelatin is used to help the texture of the product and is derived from either beef or pork. In the United States, gelatin derived from beef is found in all varieties of Kellogg's® Frosted Mini-Wheats® cereal. We have included the information for our other products below.

Gelatin derived from pork is found in the following in the U.S:

  • Kellogg's® cereal products that contain marshmallow additives (Kellogg's® Marshmallow Froot Loops cereal)
  • All varieties of Kellogg's® Rice Krispies Treats® Squares

 

Gelatin derived from beef is found in the following in the U.S.:

  • All varieties of Kellogg's® Frosted Pop-Tarts®
  • All varieties of Kellogg's® Frosted Mini-Wheats® cereal
  • All varieties of Kellogg's® Rice Krispies Treats™ cereal

 

Some of our foods in the U.S. contain gelatin that is derived from either beef or pork; sourcing is based on availability in the marketplace. These include:

  • All Kellogg's® fruit flavored snacks
  • All Kellogg's® Krave Treat Bars

 

Please note that none of our equipment that comes in contact with the gelatin in Kellogg's® Frosted Pop-Tarts® is used in the production of the other pastries. As a result, Plain (unfrosted) Kellogg's® Pop-Tarts® do not contain gelatin. The pre-gelatinized wheat starch contained in some of our toaster pastries is derived from wheat and does not contain any gelatin.

What a wonderful father’s day picnic in June 2017, which turnout great. There was yummy food, amazing kid’s presentations, inspiring lecture from Pandit Sanjeevji Godha and a fantastic social atmosphere for us to get together and have a good time.

VAJRAKUMAR
In the city of Tumbivan, there lived a rich Brahmin called Dhangiri. He had a beautiful wife named Sunanda. Their life was full of joy. After a while, when Sunanda was pregnant she saw a beautiful dream one night. She told this to her husband who was also a scholar. He told his wife that she would give birth to a bright and beautiful child. She felt very happy and the time was slipping just fine.

#13 PADMAVATI TEMPLE & THE SNAKES KINDOM
The Padmavati temple is part of the Shri Pujya Toonk. The entrance is to the right, past the benches and water station.

As you enter, notice the water reservoir, or parab, on the left. Now look to the right. These are individual shrines for each of the 24 tirthankars with idols and footprints.

The tree beside each shrine is different. It matches the tree under which that tirthankar achieved enlightenment, also known as moksh or “Kevalgyan”. Inside the shrine, the color of the footprints matches the color associated with that tirthankar: gold, red, black, greenish blue, and white. The idols are also carved in the same posture that each tirthankar achieved “Kevalgyan.” Pretty neat, right?

Next, let’s go to the medium-sized shrine in the center of the courtyard. It is the temple dedicated to Padmavati Devi. Padavati is the protective goddess of Lord Parshwanath, twenty-third Jain Tirthankar. She is an important religious deity in her own right and is very popular amongst Jains. A snake’s hood covers her head, and she sits on a lotus flower. Look for a small image of the Lord Parshwanath placed in her crown.

According to one Jain sect, Parshvanath saved two snakes that had been trapped in a burning log when a he was young prince. Later, one of these snakes as reborn as Dharanendra, the lord of the snake, or “Nag”, kingdom. The other was reborn as Padmavati. They sheltered Parshvanath when he was harassed by the snake Meghalin. While Padmavati is Parshwanath’s protective goddess, Dharnendra is his Attendant God, or “Yaksha”.

Every few years, there have also sightings of snakes here by the security guards and other employees who are the only ones allowed to be on the hill at night. Nobody else can stay overnight. As you turn back and head to the entrance, the temples you see on the distant mountain peak is our final destination. You’re 75% of the way there!

8. VEGAN RECIPE


SAVORY CHICKPEA PANCAKES/BESAN CHILLA
Ingredients:

For Pancakes

  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup water

For Toppings

  • 3 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Generous amount of salt + pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh spinach
  • Vegan cream or yogurt


Instructions:

  1. Mix together the chickpea flour, spices and salt Add oil and 1 cup water and whisk again until smooth. Allow batter to rest for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a skillet. Give the batter a stir and add more water if needed (you want it to thinner than a pancake batter).
  3. Brush oil on skillet, pour the batter and spread it out thinly. Allow to cook for 1 - 2 minutes. Flip and cook for another minute or so. Take it out on a plate and repeat for remaining batter.
  4. Add the topping ingredients (except spinach and yogurt) into bowl and mix well. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. While serving put some spinach leaves, toppings mix on pancake and enjoy with vegan cream or yogurt.
