In Jainism, meditation has been a core spiritual practice since all the twenty-four Jain Tirthankaras practiced deep meditation to attain enlightenment. They are all shown in meditative postures in their images or idols also. Lord Mahavira, practiced deep meditation for twelve years to attain enlightenment.

Jain Acharayas believe that meditation can lead to self-realization or take the soul to complete freedom. In deep meditation, one can perceive pure consciousness that is beyond any attachment or aversion or other dualities. That is why, at times, Jain meditation and spiritual practices system is referred to as salvation-path by striving to be just a knower-seer or ‘Gyata-Drashta’.
