KNOW YOUR TIRTHANKAR
Anantnath Bhagwan is the 14th Tirthankar of the Avsarpani kaal. He was born to King Sihnsen and Queen Suyasha Devi in the city of Ayodhya Nagri. He attained nirvana at Samet Shikhar and had 50 Gandhars. He took 3 bhavs after Samyak Darshan to attain moksh. The topic of his first sermon was Importance of Tatva.

Jain Tatvas are the single most important subjects of Jain philosophy. It deals with the theory of karma which provides the basis for the path of liberation. Without the proper knowledge of these tatvas a person cannot progress spiritually. The proper understanding of this subject brings about right faith, right knowledge and right conduct to an individual. Jainism is not about changing the world but it is changing our own selves. The objective of tatvas is to change the self. The entire Sadhna of an aspirant can be presented in tatvas. If one understands the essence of tatvas he will understand the mystery behind the ups and downs of his life and he will be able to do proper sadhna.

JAIN STORY
In the city of Kshitipratisthit, there lived a king named Virsen. He had two sons, Surasen and Mahasen. Both brothers grew up with deep love for each other.

Once Mahasen developed a boil on his tongue. It grew in size, became more painful, and would not let him rest. The King tried all treatments but nothing worked. Everybody felt sorry for the Prince’s suffering. All attempts to cure him failed and at last, doctors declared it as an incurable problem. After a while, disease advanced so much that he had a horrible bad breath. No one could come close to him because they could not tolerate the odor. But his younger brother, Surasen would not leave him alone. He always…

PRINCIPLE OF ANEKANTVAD
The world is more complicated than ever. Public and political opinions are trending towards polarization. We are split apart by our views on controversial and non controversial topics alike. However, through the power of language, we can transform this state into good. Diverse perspectives are necessary in order to promote change in any established system - whether it be your school and your country. They are an essential part of our daily lives as well.

The principle of Anekantvad translates literally into "many-sidedness,” reflecting the importances of multiple viewpoints. Each individual’s perspective is fragmented, but when they are bridged together, they form the ultimate and complete truth. Rather than having Pravana (absolute knowledge), we have Naya (point of view knowledge). To be correct, our statements must be conditional. This hesitancy is not a weakness - it is acceptance and understanding. None of us are able to see the entire big picture, no matter how hard we try. It is only by working together and sharing our knowledge - whether it be through debate or conversation - that we can reach the greater good. This principle extends to religious as well as social tolerance.

Jainism encourages us to consider the viewpoints of others - especially if they are different from our own. While it may be easy to only consider viewpoints that agree with ours, if we do so, we remain confined within a dark and narrow hallway. Each time we consider the perspectives of others, a door or window is opened. The ultimate goal is for all perspectives to be welcomed - the hallway becomes an open field exposed to a multi-faceted orb: the light of knowledge.
