If the door of a house remains open air enters it. When the air blows into the house it carries the dust particles into it. Due to attachment and aversion, a man indulges into activities. Where attachment and aversion exist, the bondage of karma is certain.

From Acharya Mahaprajna

Why is Dinner after Sunset Prohibited?

Once a question was posed to me as to why dinner after sunset is prohibited amongst the Jains? Honestly, can there be a time specific even for hunger? It is practical to eat when hungry. This is the only valid rule. For hunger there can be no day or night. How does light or darkness matter?

At a seminar in Bangalore where many scientists took part, the subject came up that in the Jain tradition, dinner after sunset is prohibited. One should look for reasons for the same. A gentleman came to me with the question. I replied, "Yes indeed dinner after sunset is connected to religious beliefs because it is not sanctioned by religion. but along with this there is a sceintific reason for it also.

The heat produced in our bodies digests whatever we eat. Our digestive strength is the heat. For it to work efficiently, the heat from the sun is essential. When sun rays are not available digestion suffers. Digestion becomes weak. Therefore the one who eats at night suffers from indigestion.

Diwali Milan

The JVBNA families celebrated Diwali Milan on November 12 under the guidance of Samani Sanmati Pragyaji & Samani Jayant Pragyaji at the JVBNA CPPM. The program incorporated all the senses into celebration - delicious food for the tongue, melodious magalacharan by the JVBNA choir for the ears, Diwali through costumes for the eyes performed by the Gyanshala children. The program also comprised of a skit with a lesson performed by the Youth Forum teens and a very interesting interactive Bodhi lottery quiz game for the audience. The Bodhi lottery prizes were sponsored by Pradeep & Anju Surana. Chairman Pratap Jain and President Madhumita Sacheti welcomed  and wished the families. Samanijis spoke on the qualities of a diya and related that to what we should aspire for in our lives. The MCs for the program were Deepali Jain and Amit Sharma.
