Jain Center of Southern California

Jain Center has arranged ENGLISH LECTURES during first five days of Paryushan for those who prefer English. This would be of particular interest to all the YOUTH and also for those parents who want their children to visit temple and attend lectures in their easy to understand and preferred language.

Last Year we introduced a new Speaker Dr. Dicky Shah. Following after the success of his last year presentation many listeners asked him to come back again for several more days. However he consented for only one day during this Paryushan since he spends considerable time researching the topics, learning and mastering the subjects thoroughly so he could justify his own standards.

ONE DAY EVENT ONLY By Dr. Dickey Shah
Subject: Jain Scripture
Day: Friday, September 2nd
Time: 9 PM on wards

This year’s lecture will be about the origin and evolution of our Jain scriptures.  After a brief overview of last year’s topic, the history of Jainism, Dicky Shah will explore the origin of the Agamas and follow their development over the centuries.  He will talk about what influenced this development and briefly describe the content of the current Jain canons, both Digamabar and Svetambar.  He will end the talk with the Tattvartha Sutra and some interesting facts about the Namokar Mantra.

Dr. Dicky Shah grew up in the UK and the US. He has done BA in English Literature from Cornell University where he also minored in South Asian Studies.  He then attended NY Medical College and completed his residency at USC in Emergency Medicine. This will be his second Paryushan lecture. He is son of respected Girishbhai & Sushilaben Shah.
