Jain festivals are characterized by both internal and external celebrations. The internal celebration is through praying and expressing devotion to Jinas, practicing meditation, spiritual studies, and renunciation. Paryushan and Das Lakshana are important Jain festivals. It happens during late August / September commencing on the twelfth day of the fortnight of the waning moon cycle and ending in the fourteenth of the fortnight of the waxing moon cycle. During this 18 days period, Jain scholars and monks visit temples and explain the Jain philosophy. Jains during this period practice external austerities such as fasting, limiting their normal activities, long distance travel etc. At the conclusion of the festivities, a look back is encouraged, and Pratikraman is done for repentance of faults and forgiveness is given and asked for from all living beings. The seed of becoming the supreme self lies in Samkit. The soul where Samkit appears is certain to attain liberation one day. Power point presentation will include following topics: 1. The true nature and qualities of the soul. 2. The supreme goal of the life. 3. Meaning and definition of Samkit. 4. Nature of Mithyatva. 5. From darkness of Mithyatva to light of the Samkit. 6. Origin of Samkit. 7. Journey of the Soul. 8. Attainment of Samkit, easy or difficult? 9. Who can attain Samkit? 10. The characteristics to attain Samkit. 11. Conduct of one who has attained Samkit. 12. 8 limbs and 67 proclamation of Samkit. 13. Importance, impact and fruits of Samkit. 14. Samkit is art of living. 15. Superiority of Samkit. 16. Liberation through Samkit. Please register at to receive helpful information prior to Paryushana. Subject : Jain scriptures Day: Friday, September 2nd, 2016 Time : 9 PM onwards Speaker: Dr Diki Shah. | | R.S.V.P. stands for a French phrase, "répondez, s'il vous plaît," which means "please reply." The person sending the invitation would like you to tell him or her whether you accept or decline the invitation. That is, will you be coming to the event or not? Etiquette rules followed in most Western cultures require that if you receive a formal, written invitation, you should reply promptly, perhaps that same day. For the team that is planning for Ekasana, Swamivatsalya and Parna this is important from a practical point of view, because they need to know how many people to count on and how much food to prepare. With unreliable RSVP count, either we are short of food or too much food and neither situation is desirable. JCSC Food/Ekasana committee urges all the community members to please RSVP in time, using the link below, so they can properly plan as tremendous time and effort goes in planning process. Your understanding and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. 2016-Paryushan Ekasana, Swamivatsalya and Parna RSVP-Link | | "Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more." ― H.Jackso Brown Jr. With Paryushan Parva approaching soon from 29th August through 5th September, many of us have bhavana of doing some sort of penance/Tapasya such as Upvas, Ekasanas and Besanas.
