JCSC Presents Music Mantra Program By Kummarji Chatterjee - August 29, 2015

JCSC is very excited to present a unique audio-visual based Sangeet program on Jain Stavans & Mantra in different Ragas with fusion music by a well renowned artist from India, Kummar Chatterjee. Kummarji has previously performed at JCSC in 2012 and amazed everyone with his unique style. Recently Kummarji was awarded a Dharma Dhaja by International Jain Foundation and he has been invited to participate in the World Religious Conference later this year in Utah.

He has performed extensively not only in India but throughout the world and has entertained attendees of all ages. An artist of his caliber and accomplishments is very hard to find and we are very fortunate that he is available here for us to enjoy. Attached clips and articles along with his bio-data will give you some flavor of his work and accomplishments. Kummarji not only entertains but also promotes Jainism and the understanding of the deep meanings behind all Mantra and Stavans that we love so dearly.

This event is scheduled on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 8-11 pm in the main hall at the Jain Center. We hope that you will mark your calendar. We realize that it is a short notice and there may be conflicts with other planned events. However, this will be a program not to be missed. We sincerely hope that you will make every effort to attend. We guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

To put together a program like this, we need all kind of support from you including but not limited to financial support to pay for the cost of this event. We welcome sponsors and donations of any amount small and large. Any surplus collection after paying for all incurred costs will go to the Jain Center. Wellness Challenge: Walk A Total Of 10 Miles

For the upcoming weekly challenge we are challenging the participants to "walk a total of 10 miles.” On an average day, 30 percent of American adults walk for exercise and with good reason. Walking doesn’t require special equipment or athletic skills, yet it offers a host of health benefits - from helping you lose weight and lifting your mood to controlling diabetes and lowering your blood pressure. For more information and to participate in the challenge, click here.

Logassa Challenge

Contemplation of the soul - a key to Paryushan Parv and Das Lakshan. It is a time to reflect and involve ourselves in religious practices in every day affairs. It is a time to think, analyze and meditate as part of right conduct.

There are six essential rites (Avashyak) interwoven with daily life of a pious Jain. The second essential is Chaturvimshati-Stav - praying and appreciating the qualities of the 24 Tirthankars. Devpuja, worship of the Tirthankars, covers Chaturvimsati-stava.

Logassa Sutra is the Chaturvimshati-Stav. When we recite the Logassa Sutra we are praising and admiring the qualities of Tirthankars, who have conquered their passions. We get motivated to overcome similar passions of anger, ego, deceit and greed. We appreciate the Tirthankars for showing us the path of liberation.

Take the Logassa Challenge and be able to recite the Logassa Sutra. If you are having a tough time with memorization or pronunciation, try the Karaoke learning tool. There are many audio and visual tools on the JCSC website.

Challenge yourself and others! Register today!

1) Anekant Community Center (ACC) Musical Masala Hungama

Phenomenal growth of Jain Center of Southern California made us realize in 2003 that we need another organization, a non-religious arm to do humanitarian activities and apply for grants for those activities and to attract matching funds from corporations. Recognizing the incredibly rich and complex nature of reality, Jains developed the concept of notion of the “Many-sidedness” or “Multiplicity of Views” (anekant) of existence. Thus Anekant Community Center (ACC) was created in 2005. ACC wishes to expand services beyond  race, religion, or country - A true Anukampa in practice.

All members of Jain Center of Southern California are also members of ACC.

We will celebrate 10th Anniversary on Saturday, 10th October, 2015 at  the Jain Center.

Glimpses of Activities by ACC:
  1. Health (local) - Annual free Health fairs at JCSC, Annual Anaheim Health Fair from 2007, free onsite dental services from 2012, 3 days in 2015. Health fairs for Sri Lankan, Zoroastrian, Bangla Deshi, Vietnamese and American communities. Health education on various topics like Diabetes, hypertension, heart attack etc. Cancer prevention services in India.
  2. Community Outreach - Tender Care Community Outreach Program (TCCOP) provides meals on a regular basis, services sick people, visits seniors, organizes drives to collect and distribute school supplies, toys, clothing etc.
  3. Culture - Many cultural activities have been undertaken by ACC over the years to recognize local and international talents and to entertain community.
  4. Health (International) - multiple medical/surgical missions are undertaken by ACC in many countries including India, Zambia, South Africa, Malawi, Fiji, Jamaica etc. Annual Surgical camp for Hernia/Hydrocele was started in 2007 and was recognized in Limca book of records in 2012.
