A delegation comprising members of the Karnataka Jain community, led by Dharmasthala Surendra Kumar, met Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday and urged him on the continuation of the religious practice of ‘Sallekhana/Santhara’.

‘File an appeal’

The delegation requested Mr. Gowda to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the judgment of Rajasthan High Court, Jain Bench, which declared Sallekhana/Santhara as illegal and punishable under the law of the land. A release from the Karnataka Jain Association said that Mr. Gowda has assured them of examining the issue.
