Jain Vegans ►Unmissable talk on the science & ethics of animal testing - Sun 31 May

This Sunday (31 May), Young Jains are hosting an unmissable talk on the science and ethics of animal testing at the Jain Centre, Colindale, North West London (UK).  For those of us who wish to minimise harm to animals, but are not scientific experts on the subject, this is us an excellent opportunity for us to begin to educate ourselves.

UK law requires that all new drugs are tested on at least two species of mammals. Such experimentation often induces significant harm on sensitive and intelligent living beings. As members of the Jain community, many of us feel uncomfortable about animal experimentation, but feel helpless to do anything about it, especially since most of us do not have specialist scientific knowledge.

Young Jains have organised a speaker event which is a fantastic opportunity for us to help begin to educate ourselves on the science and ethics of animal experimentation.

Andre Menache BSc (Hons) BVSc MRCVS is a veterinary surgeon with specialist knowledge in animal experimentation and regulatory toxicology. He is a fantastic public speaker, and his talk will cover the links between animal experimentation, human health, government policy and the environment. Andre’s talk will be followed by a short commentary by Sagar Kirit Shah of the Jain Vegans Working Group, and lots of time for Q&A.

1) Talk by Keval Shah at Jain Samaj Europe, Leiciester, UK - Keval Shah delivered an excellent speech in Gujarati on the relevance of a vegan lifestlye to approximately 200 members of the Leicester Jain community as part of Jain Samaj Europe's 30 year celebrations.   Other members of the Jain Vegans Working Group also hosted an information stall at the event (pictured below).

2) 100% Vegan and Jain-friendly wedding events - In April 2015, Sagar and Anuja Shah held 100% vegan and Jain friendly wedding celebration events at Navnat Centre and Oshwal Centre UK, and in May 2015 Kewal and Rashmi Shah hosted a 100% vegan and Jain friendly wedding reception at Oshwal Centre UK.  Catering was provided by Swagat and ,and menus included dishes such as kadhi, chaas, mohanthal, amrat pak, motia ladoo and badshahi seero.  Congatulations to the happy couples and the caterers for adapting dishes to make them vegan and Jain-friendly.
