Wellness Challenge - Do A Set Of Balance Exercises Daily

For the upcoming weekly challenge we are challenging the participants to "do a set of balance exercises daily.” Balance exercise is one of the four types of exercise along with strength, endurance and flexibility. They don’t need all to be done every day, but variety helps keep the body fit and healthy, and makes exercise interesting. Having good balance is important for many activities we do every day, such as walking and going up and down the stairs. Exercise that improve balance can help prevent falls, a common problem in older adults and stroke patients.  For more information and to participate in the challenge, click here.

Other News & Events

1) Nepal Fund Raiser
Jain Center along with the Sanatan Dharm Temple, the Anekant Community Center and approximately 20 other leading local Indian and Nepalese organizations and businesses hosted a fund raiser at the Sanatan Dharm Temple on the evening of Saturday May 2nd, 2015 for the benefit of survivors of the devastating earthquake which struck in Nepal almost 10 days ago. Not only was the event successful, it surpassed expectations. More than 700 people attended the event and contributed over $ 125,000.00. Thanks to all the volunteers who worked very hard to put together the entire event in less than a week's time. All the funds were collected by our Jain Center under it's name.

Jay Bharat sponsored the Jain Dinner, which was concluded before sunset. Approximately 8 to 10 singers performed for over 2 hours free of charge.

The honorary Consul General of Nepal was the Chief Guest at the event and praised the efforts by all to help the country of Nepal. Jain Center is extremely grateful to the Sanatan Dharm Temple and Mr. B U Patel for hosting the event since Jain Center was not available due to previously scheduled events.

Jain Center Representatives along with the selected representatives from Indian and Nepalese organizations are taking appropriate actions to make help available to survivors on an urgent basis.

Jain Center will continue to collect donations for Nepal relief work. Please send your tax deductible donation to Jain Center of Southern California with a notation of 'Nepal Relief Fund'. JCSC would like to thank the community for their generous support and help.

2) College Education Loan for US Resident Jain Students

International Alumni Association of Shri Mahavir Jain Vidyalaya (IAAMJV), a non-profit organization supported by the Jain community in USA, is proud to offer loans of $5,000 ($2,000 for the 1st year and $1,000 per year for the next 3 years) to deserving Jain students graduating from US high schools and pursuing undergraduate studies in USA. The loan is repayable starting six months after recipient enters workforce on a full time basis.

This program was introduced in1999. It is a nationwide program open to all Jains, and is funded by generous donations from Benefactors. It has been established as a loan program to allow reuse of the funds in perpetuity.  When repaid, the same loan amount will be made available to other deserving students. Forty six students have taken advantage of this program over the past 14 years.

We encourage every Jain family to take advantage of this program in coming years. Deadline for submission of applications for current year is June 30, 2015. Please visit www.iaamjv.org for more information.
