Bhakti thi Mukti: Reverence to Liberation

Mandatory Back-To-Pathshala for Parents on Sunday, October 12

This is a quick reminder that this Sunday, October 12, 2014 is "BACK TO PATHSHALA" day.  Parents’ attendance is mandatory.   

You will get a chance to meet your children's teachers and preview what your children will be learning in their religion and language classes.  You will also have the opportunity to express your views and opinions to the teachers and the JCYC leads.

Please be at the Jain Center by 9:00 am.  Breakfast will be provided so come in and meet the parents of your child's class mates.  

The JCYC committee has prepared a great Halloween costume event that children can enjoy while their parents are attending the classes so feel free to bring your children.

Parents of the Mommy & Me classes  (Toddler, 5 yrs and 6 yrs) are not required to attend Back to Pathshala sessions, but you are welcome to bring your children to the Jain Center for the Costume event.

Lecture (with Q&A) on Medicare by Suren Shah - October 18, 2014

Medicare  is quite complex and people have an opportunity to make changes to their medicare coverage during Oct 15 thru Dec 7 effective the following year. This one hour presentation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. will cover various topics in detail. There will be a follow up Q&A session.

Diwali/New Year Program at Jain Center (Tuesday, 10/21 - Friday, 10/24)

Diwali is one single festival in the world which is celebrated on exactly the same day by different religions and faiths for various reasons specific to that religion. Jains celebrate Diwali to celebrate the Nirvana of Bhagwan Mahavir.

Gyan Panchmi Program - Tuesday, October 28

Gyan Panchmi is celebrated 5 days after Diwali and is also known as Laabh Panchmi. It is the day of appreciating acquired/collected knowledge in every form and holy books.

A lot of people observe fast by keeping maun (silence).This is the auspicious day for those who want to start Panchmi with fasting.

This year Panchmi is on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.We will have Gyan Pujan and Gautam Swamisthpana at derasar at 9:30 am for any one who wishes to perform puja. Dev vandan will follow after puja in Aaradhana Hall.

JAYA Bowling Event - 11/9 at 1:30 PM

It’s now time to block off your calendars for our next event, Bowling TO SUPPORT ANIMAL RIGHTS!

Please plan to come to Irvine Lanes on Sunday, November 9th at 1:30 PM for an afternoon of fun. For just $10 per person, you and your family will rent bowling shoes and get to play several games until 5:30 PM. Come at your convenience. Light snacks will be provided.

For the upcoming weekly challenge we are challenging the participants to "Eat 1 serving of leafy green vegetables daily.” Greens are the number 1 food you can eat regularly to help improve your health. That’s because leafy vegetables are filled with fiber along with vitamins, minerals, and plant-based substances that may help protect you from heart disease, diabetes, and perhaps even cancer. Here is a list of the top leafy vegetables: Kale, Collards, Swiss chard, Spinach, Mustard greens, Broccoli, Red and Green Leaf and Romaine Lettuce, and Cabbage.

Kashmir Disaster Relief Fund - Donate Today!

Most of you have either heard news on TV/Radio or read in the newspaper about the calamity caused by heavy monsoon rains in the Kashmir. JCSC has always been at the forefront to help the people stricken by disaster around the world. Our community members have consistently risen to the call of help those who have been affected by calamities regardless of the race, religion, creed, and nationality.

You all are requested to donate generously to help the people of Kashmir. Please send your donations, large or small, to JCSC.

Please make the check payable to Jain Center of Southern California and write ‘Kashmir Disaster Relief Fund’ in the memo line area or you can make your donations on line by using donation link on Jain Center website.
