SCVP ►English Pratikraman

SCVP is pleased to inform that this year we delivered Pratikraman in English for all 8 days at two venues - in addition to the usual venue at Kingsbury High School, we were kindly invited by Navnat Association to deliver the English Pratikraman at Navnat Centre in Hayes for all 8 days. We thank Navnat for their hospitality and good organisation.

The English Pratikraman is very special  with the full Pratikraman being performed but with sutras being recited in English as well as the original language and recited by everyone together. The aim has been for people, both young and old, to understand the process and essence of this most important of all Jain festivals.

The attendance levels at both venues have been excellent with approximately 250 people coming on Savantsari day and an average daily attendance ranging between 100 and 150 people. The Pratikraman was delivered by a group of highly experienced SCVP teachers: Sandipbhai, Anilaben, Manjriben, Nishmaben, Sonalben and Ritaben with all the logistics being dealt with by Nileshbhai, Pramitbhai, Shandipbhai, Shaileenbhai, and Dipenbhai.

It has been a profound experience for all as the Pratikraman sutras have been translated so lucidly into English. People attending were of all ages and all have commented that they have really benefitted from their participation and that:

“We never understood what the Pratikraman is really about nor what the sutras meant but now clearly understand their importance and the relevance of doing Pratikraman.”

In particular the children who have been attending have been amazing - they have also found the process interesting as they can relate to the translations and in participating we have seen the depth of their positive thinking and commitment. And throughout the 8 days the children took a lead in reciting many of the prayers including the Logassa, Uvassagharam, Laghu Shanti and the Vandittu sutra. Congratulations to all the children who attended at both venues.

On this auspicious occasion of Paryushan, we bow to you and seek forgiveness for any hurt or harm we may have caused to you, directly or indirectly, knowingly or unknowingly.

We offer our unconditional apology. Please forgive us with the lovingness and generosity of your heart.
