The last day of the monsoon session of the Legislative Council saw some unusual visitors. Surprising the public and leaders, two Jain monks belonging to the Sthanakvasi panth of Shewtambar Jains dropped in at the Council gallery to witness the proceedings.
The two monks, Surendra Muni ji and Pushpendra Muni ji, are currently undergoing Chaturmas in Chikpet Jain Sthanakvasi organised by Jain Sraman Sangh of Bangalore. The monks hailing from Rajasthan along with six other monks have been residing in Bangalore and undergoing Chaturmas under the guidance of Upadhyay Ramesh Muniji and Dr Rajendra Muniji.
At around 1 pm the Jain monks, accompanied by BJP MLC Lehar Singh Siroya, arrived at the gallery and witnessed the Question Hour proceedings for about half-an-hour. Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Lehar Singh said, "Two-days ago when I had been to Sthanak, I met the monks and they expressed their wish to see how our democracy functions. It was a sheer coincidence that Karnataka Legislature was in progress when they have undertaken Chaturmasa. Hence on Wednesday, they arrived in the Vidhana Soudha to witness Council proceedings."
The two Jain monks were introduced to the House and members by Chairman D H Shankaramurthy. The monks reportedly said that they were very much impressed by the procedures though they could not follow the subject as it was entirely in Kannada.

संतों ने देखी विप की कार्यवाही
बैंगलोर 1 अगस्त 2014। कर्नाटक विधान परिषद् सदस्य लहरसिंह सिरोया के आग्रह पर बुधवार को बैंगलोर शहर में चातुर्मासरत सुरेन्द्र मुनि एवं डॉ. पुष्पेन्द्र मुनि ने कर्नाटक विधान परिषद् के सभागार में विधान परिषद् की कार्यवाही को देखा। विधान परिषद् में कार्यवाही के दौरान पदार्पण पर परिषद् के सभापति शंकरमूर्ति ने दोनों जैन संतों का स्वागत किया व अन्य सदस्यों ने अभिवादन किया। परिषद् के इतिहास में प्रथम मौका था जब जैन संतों ने विधान परिषद् की कार्यवाही को देखा। विधान परिषद् के अवलोकन के बाद बाहर विभिन्न मंत्रियों व सदस्यों से मुलाकात करते हुए संतों ने सबको धर्म संदेष देकर न्याय नीति के अनुषरण को प्रधानता देने का आहवान किया एवं निर्बलों व असहायों की ओर विषेष ध्यान देने की प्रेरणा दी। इस दौरान परिषद् सदस्य लहरसिंह सिरोया ने संतों को परिषद् की पूर्ण कार्यप्रणाली व विधानसभा का भी अवलोकन कराया।
