Sanskrit: असुर (asura)

According to Hindu and Buddhist mythology the demonic asuras are the opposer of the devas (or suras). Hindu tradition accentuate their demonical character while Buddhist records usually descibe them as jealous celestial beings. In Jaina tradition asuras are just a marginal phenomenon.
