Light To Lamp Lights: 14 ►Search for a Human Being

I am wandering in search for a real man. I have two kinds of thoughts—the first thought is, why this search for human being? Population has grown like a surging tide. How the population has grown so much in a short time? India's population of 350 million is about to touch the figure of 950 million. The world population has already gone beyond the mark of 5 billion. My other thought is, the number of real human beings is declining. Whichever way you turn, you see crowds of men dressed in suits and shoes. But it is difficult to say how many among them are human beings. In other words, this can be taken to mean that there are men no doubt, but humaneness has disappeared somewhere. Men are growing in number but humaneness has eroded or is being eroded. In such a situation, the search for a human being requires a special significance.

Men are of two kinds—good and bad. Are there more good people in the world or bad? That is a question. For the sake of saying it is said that times are very bad. Men's mind is bad. He is sunk neck-deep in sin and crime. The foundation on which his behaviour can be based has sided away. He has no sense of distinction between good and bad. People without a sense of discretion get surrounded by evils from all sides. This is one point of view. Another point of view is positive. According to this view, the actual number of good people is more even today, but more bad people are seen around. A public meeting can be cited as an example. In a meeting of thousands, if one person stands up and starts talking some nonsense, he attracts everybody's attention. Thousands of people seated peacefully are deliberately ignored, because there is no reason to draw attention towards them.

There is no dearth at all of good people. But they lack in two things. Their one shortcoming is that they are not organised, Organisation has power. A broom made by tying together the scattered twins clears all the dirt and dust from the whole house. A bundle of many logs of wood tied together cannot be broken even by a strong man. Iron rings scattered around serve no purpose, but a chain made by joining them together can tie even an elephant or a lion. That is the situation of the good people. If they can get together in the form of a strong organization, they can trounce the anti-social elements proliferating in the world. If only good man would realise this ability of his and put it to full use.

Another shortcoming of the good people is their indifference towards evil or bad people. What should be said about the people who are not stirred into action even when they get information about an individual or group of individuals taking to evil actions but sit back in silence? It is sinful to indulge in evil. Similarly, putting up with that evil is also sinful. A large number of people commit such a sin today. They may be wondering what purpose would be served by involving themselves unnecessarily in any bother? I pity such type of thinking. Is man's life confined to individual to that extent? Those who understand the law of ecology know that when a calamity befalls any one man, the entire human race is affected by it. Under this situation, how can any thinking person become a victim of a culture of indifference? The organisation of good people and their alertness for fighting the evil—if these two things can take place, good people would stand out prominently on the screen of the world.
