Acharya Shriji received an Award for Compassion
We are pleased to announce that Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj received the Acharya Hasthi Karuna Award from Karuna International for her unwavering compassion which is transforming the lives of millions of children and adults not just in India but also across the Globe.

Karuna International is a well-known non-profit organisation working towards inculcating compassion for all living beings through establishing Karuna clubs in schools and colleges. As a result of their work, thousands of students have adopted vegetarian diet and are actively involved with compassionate work.
Memory power and recalling over 100 questions and objects!
On 11th November 2016, Shri Sugalchandji Jain (Vice President, Veerayatan) of Singhvi Charitable Trust organised a unique demonstration of Avadhan by Jay Jain, a disciple of Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj.

Avadhan means the trained ability and talent to memorize any number of questions, objects, or statements asked by a live audience. An Avdhani can recall these questions, and even answer them, in any order or sequence.
This mesmerizing program took place in Chennai in the presence of Sadhvi Shri Sanghamitraji Maharaj. The program was attended by 840 students from 6 schools and dignitaries from Chennai and Delhi. All in the audience were awestruck by Jay’s ability to memorize and recall questions and objects.

We are pleased to inform you that Veerayatan has already started a temporary school in Pawapuri for the destitute children of the Mushahar caste, a neglected and outcast community, living in the village of Puri. Around 80 children are registered and are attending classes at the temporary school. Enrolment is ongoing as more and more children join in advance of the formal opening of the new school.

Remarkably the children of this community have never experienced education before and these children are the first generation to attend school. In addition to providing high quality education, Veerayatan will also supply all children with school uniforms, a school bag, shoes and socks, books and other accessories. Snacks will also me provided to children on a daily basis.
Veerayatan kUTCH

Highlights

Around 60 students from Veerayatan Colleges participated in the 3 day 'Swach Bharat' (‘Clean India’) Campaign from 2nd October to 4th October organized by the Government of India. Students went to 20 different villages to talk to villagers and make them aware of the importance of health and hygiene. Students from the civil engineering department also helped with the construction of toilets, fulfilling a long cherished dream of Mr Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, that no household should be without proper sanitation.

In January all the college students volunteered their services and went to various Kutch villages to talk to villagers, especially housewives and elderly people, about cashless transactions, including information on how these work and what the villagers need to do to use this facility. This project has come about as a result of the progress in demonetisation and the realisation that people in rural villages are not aware of different ways of handling transactions other than just with cash.

School Assembly 3rd of December 2016

The graduate class of 2016, Modular Applied, organized an assembly on 3rd December 2016 to reflect upon the lessons they had learnt throughout their ten year spiritual journey attending Shri Chandana Vidyapeeth (SCVP).

The theme of the assembly was ‘GURU’ and was dedicated to Pujya Upadhyaya Shri Amar Muniji Maharaj.

There were presentations from all the twelve classes, from Little Jains to the Mother’s class. All in all, each class creatively and confidently presented the various aspects about Gurus. There was a class who acted out the guru-disciple relationship of Mahavir Bhagwan and Gautam Swami. Others praised the qualities of Gurus, whereas others recited stutis to pay their respect to the Tirthankaras, Acharyas, Upadhyayas and Sadhus, the Sadgurus. By the end of the assembly, the audience learnt that despite themselves not being Sadgurus, they have started their own spiritual journey, as Shravaks and Shravikas, because of the knowledge the Gurus have imparted; they learnt the importance and impact of Jain Gurus on their lives.

All of us went home, proud of having a pure heritage handed down to us by our Gurus; and with a take-back lesson to respect our Gurus, be it teachers at school, or Sadhus and Sadhvis, or at the Derasar or even parents because they all teach us various things that make us better humans.

We at SCVP are deeply grateful to the guidance we receive from our gurus, Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj and all the Sadhvijis of Veerayatan.
End of year Christmas Party for children with cerebral palsy
Young Jains Nairobi, which sponsors children with cerebral palsy (CP) in Kenya, organized an end of year Christmas Party that was hosted on Saturday 10th December 2016. There was a total attendance of 160 individuals being parents, children and staff of the CP Unit. As a tradition, Young Jains Nairobi plans such events for these precious angels to offer them a chance to enjoy and have fun outside the usual classroom and therapy hall. But most importantly this event creates bonding and gives an opportunity to show to and share love with the precious children.

At the party children had face painting, sang songs, joyously danced and enjoyed rides at the Fun Scape play area. They were also entertained by a magician and after serving scrumptious meals the party ended with every child going home with a goody bag. It was an amazing moment seeing every child having smiles on their faces throughout the party!

Dominic, a child with CP, said that he did not want to leave the place as it was so exciting and full of fun. Clement, a parent, sent heartfelt appreciation to Young Jains Nairobi for creating such a wonderful opportunity for children. Parents were so thankful and spoke words of blessings to Young Jains Nairobi.

2016 - End of Year Reflection at SCVP London
As the curtains came down on 2016, it was certainly a time to reflect on another phenomenal year at SCVP.  With the grace of Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj, the school has continued to progress in making a difference in people’s lives. The school has grown over the year and in the last term we have had a new intake of children from the age of 3 years for the first time and are now conducting two adult classes.

We had a packed calendar with events and activities, underpinning the three pillars of Seva, Shiksha and Sadhana. We engaged in a number of volunteering activities ranging from planting around 675 tree saplings (twice in the year), serving people who fasted during Ayambil, spending time with residents at an Old People’s home, raising funds and helping with a clothes and books collection drive to assist people in India, Kenya and other countries.

We were also graced by Sadhvi Shri Shilapiji Maharaj’s visit during which time Sadhviji guided the teachers and the committee of SCVP, we had a spiritually uplifting residential retreat and a series of life transforming lectures. We also had the chance to reflect peacefully during our annual Samayik programme, English Pratikraman on all 8 days at Paryushan and at our Gnan Pancham event.

We also had wonderful forest walks during the summer, an amazing recital of the Namothunam by children and adults at the Mahavir Janma Kalyanak celebrations, uplifting bhakti at the Derasar during Diwali and culminating in an end of the year Raas Garba event.

There are two programs running in the USA to raise funds for Veerayatan, India. Read further and see how you can contribute in transforming children and adults from underprivileged backgrounds.
1. Give the Gift of Sight, the Day you Saw the Light

The eye hospital (Netra Jyoti Seva Mandiram - NJSM) in Veerayatan, Bihar, India helps to restore the sight in over 7000 eyes each year. The demand for the gift of sight, in the poverty stricken state of Bihar is never ending. Veerayatan aims to eradicate blindness from Bihar through the promotion of education, health programs, training courses, and awareness campaigns. In 1998, a program was initiated in USA to provide well-deserved support for NJSM. We are glad to inform you that the program has raised on average $10,000 each year for this amazing cause.

How does this program work?
The program principle is very basic and simple. We all celebrate our birthdays every year with family and friends in varieties of ways - a smaller to a very large scale event. In the celebrations, we spend a significant amount of money in gifts, entertainment, traveling, eating at restaurants, etc. In celebrating our birthdays (The day we saw light), could we afford $30.00 to support one eye treatment (The Gift of Sight) through Veerayatan? The answer is most definitely, YES - regardless the birthday celebration is small or large. The program name and motto is: Give the Gift of Sight, the Day you Saw the Light!

We always welcome any donations for this program. However, we have developed a program and welcome you and your family members to register in the program. Once registered, just before the registered member’s birthday, one receives a birthday wish with a gentle reminder for a “Gift of Sight” donation “On the day you Saw the Light”. Suggested donation for the “Gift of Sight’ program is only $30 - for one surgery.

This is not a lifetime commitment; you may opt out at any time or not participate at any given year. Give the gift of a lifetime that will last for a lifetime of the recipient! Program registration

and updates of the program are also available online on Gift of Sight page. You can also make a one-time donation to support NJSM on the: Veerayatan International site.

2. SMILE - DONATE without cost while you SHOP

Sounds unbelievable, doesn’t it? But, it is true! You can make cost-free donations while you shop at Amazon online, and Amazon will donate to Veerayatan International, USA. Amazon started a program approximately three years ago to help various non-profit organizations by donating percentages of their total sales to individuals who are registered for Amazon SMILE program. This does not impact neither the purchase price of any item nor any of your fringe benefits and service offerings that one may have with Amazon. For any Veerayatan International well-wisher, there is no reason not to register in the Amazon Smile program and let Amazon donate to Veerayatan International cost free.

To register for the Amazon’s SMILE program, there are only 2 easy steps.  The Smile.Amazon.com site retains the same look as the standard Amazon.com. All benefits associated with your Amazon.com account will also transfer over (e.g. Amazon Prime).

Step 1: CLICK here: smile.amazon.com

Step 2: Enter your Amazon.com account ID/Password and select Veerayatan International as your choice of organization.

And that is it! You do not need to do anything else. For future shopping trips: Instead of shopping online at amazon.com, go and shop at smile.amazon.com. Do not miss out on any donation opportunities, you should change your bookmark to replace amazon.com with smile.amazon.com

Please note, this is not intended to replace your generous donations to Veerayatan, but to add to your donations while you do worldly shopping!!!
